Binghamton Senators News Release
UTICA, NYÂ - The Binghamton Senators were defeated by the Utica Comets 5-0 on the road Sunday afternoon inside the Utica Memorial Auditorium.
Utica tallied the opening goal of the game on the power play with Binghamton's Marc Hagel in the penalty box. On a two-on-one rush, Curtis Valk lifted the puck over a sliding B-Sens defender and onto the stick of Darren Archibald who beat Chris Driedger on the blocker side for the 1-0 lead. The goal was Archibald's 19th of the year with help from Valk and Borna Rendulic at 8:31 of the first.
The Comets extended their lead late in the first period on another power-play strike. The puck banked off a few skaters in front of Driedger and right to the stick of Rendulic who lifted it just under the cross bar. Archibald and Valk picked up the assists on Rendulic's 11th of the season with 2:28 left in the opening frame. After 20 minutes, Utica held a 2-0 lead despite the shots being even at nine.
Mike Zalewski put the Comets up by three 8:55 into the second period. From below the goal line, Marco Roy played the puck to Zalewski who skated to the front of the net all alone and lifted the puck over the blocker of Driedger for his third of the year. Roy was credited with the first assist and Archibald picked up his third point of the game with the secondary helper. Utica led 3-0 after two periods and held the overall shot advantage 23-14.
Utica added a pair of goals in the third period. Evan McEneny scored his seventh of the year at 1:59 and Pascal Pelletier put home his eighth of the season at 6:19 to seal a 5-0 victory over the B-Sens. Driedger stopped 31 in the loss while Thatcher Demko denied all 21 in the victory.
