
Rampage Sign Simpson, Lieuwen to AHL Contracts

SAN ANTONIO - The San Antonio Rampage announced today that goaltenders Kent Simpson and Nathan Lieuwen have signed one-year AHL contracts.
"We're happy to add both Kent and Nathan to our goaltending depth," said Rampage General Manager Craig Billington. "Both of these guys have experience in the National League and American League, and we're looking forward to working with them this season."
Simpson, 24, spent last season in the Calgary Flames development system, splitting time between the Stockton Heat (AHL) and the Adirondack Thunder (ECHL). He recorded a 3-4-0 record with Stockton, posting a 4.09 goals against average and .861 save percentage. The second-round pick (58th overall) of the Chicago Blackhawks in the 2010 NHL Draft, Simpson has a 3.58 goals against average and a .890 save percentage in 49 career games in the American Hockey League. He made his NHL debut during the 2013-14 campaign, playing in one game with the Blackhawks.
Lieuwen, 24, played in 28 games with the Rochester Americans last season, finishing with a 2.91 goals against average, .909 save percentage and 14-11-2 record. In 80 career AHL contests, he is 36-33-4 with a 2.73 goals against average and a .910 save percentage. Lieuwen was a sixth-round draft pick (167th overall) of the Buffalo Sabres in the 2011 NHL Draft. He played in seven games for the Sabres during the 2013-14 season, where he posted a 2.98 goals against average and a .906 save percentage.
