
Rampage sign five players to AHL contracts

SAN ANTONIO â Sept. 26, 2004 â San Antonio Rampage Director of Hockey Operations Matt Loughran announced today that the club has signed goaltenders Travis Scott and Patrick DesRochers, forwards Josh Olson, Serge Payer and defenseman Joel Kwiatkowski to AHL contracts for the 2004-05 season.
Scott, 29, led the AHL in saves last season with 1,903, marking the fourth-highest among all-time AHL netminders in single-season saves. He also finished second among AHL goaltenders with 3,746 minutes played. The 6-foot-2, 185-pounder became the all-time Rampage goaltender leader in career games played (64), minutes, wins (26), goals against average (2.50) and save percentage (.924). The Kanata, Ontario native recorded four shutouts and scored four assists.
DesRochers, 24, appeared in 50 games with the Lowell Lock Monsters (AHL) last season, posting a 2.92 goals against average and recording a professional career high 23 wins. For his NHL career, the 6-foot-4, 205-pound goalie has played in 11 games with the Phoenix Coyotes (2001-03) and the Carolina Hurricanes (2002-03). A first round draft pick of the Coyotes (14th overall in the 1998 NHL Entry Draft), DesRochers spent parts of four seasons with both Phoenix and its AHL affiliate in Springfield, Mass. before being traded to Carolina on Dec. 31, 2002 in exchange for goaltender Jean-Marc Pelletier.
Olson, 23, set career highs in games played (73), goals (22), assists (16) and points (38), finishing second on the team in goals scored and fourth in points. The Grand Forks, North Dakota, native made his NHL debut with Florida on March 11 in Montreal, tallying a goal in his first contest. The 6-foot-5, 225-pound left wing was the Panthers sixth choice (190th overall) in the 2000 NHL Entry Draft.
Payer returns to San Antonio after one year with the Ottawa Senators organization. The 25-year-old center appeared in 67 games with Binghamton (AHL) last season and recorded 34 points (14-20-34). The Rockland, Ontario, native spent the 2000-01 campaign with the Panthers, scoring five goals with one assist, and was the club's nomination for the Bill Masterton Trophy. Payer posted the best numbers of his professional career during the 2002-03 season when he notched 41 points (10-31-41) in 78 games with the Rampage.
Kwiatkowski, 27, set NHL career-highs in games played (80), goals scored (6), assists (6) and points (12) while playing with the Washington Capitals last season. He placed third on the club with an average of 21:15 of ice time and first among Washington blueliners in goals scored. For his career, the 6-foot-2, 210-pound defenseman has played in 149 NHL contests with Ottawa (2000-02) and Washington (2002-04), scoring seven goals with 11 assists and 119 penalty minutes.
The Rampage open their third AHL season on Fri., Oct. 15 against the Houston Aeros
