CARSON, Calif. (Monday, August 28, 2006) - Chivas USA announced today that midfielder Ramón RamÃrez has been placed on the season-ending injury list for the remainder of the 2006 Major League Soccer season.
"We are sorry to learn that Ramón RamÃrez will not be playing for us for the remainder of this year. However, we look forward to his return to the playing field and his future contributions to Chivas USA," said Chivas USA President and Co-Owner Antonio Cué.
Sidelined since preseason with a left knee MCL (medial collateral ligament) sprain, RamÃrez successfully underwent MCL reconstruction surgery on July 12 in Santa Monica, California. The surgery was performed by Chivas USA head physician Dr. Michael Gerhardt, assisted by associate team physicians Dr. Bert Mandelbaum and Dr. Jim Kasper.
RamÃrez, a legendary Mexican international and two-time World Cup veteran, was a vital member of Chivas USA's inaugural team in 2005, playing in 31 games, scoring two goals and adding six assists. The 36-year-old did not play for Chivas USA during the 2006 MLS season after suffering the left-knee injury in early March.
A pillar of the Mexican National Team from 1991 to 2000, RamÃrez represented Mexico in two World Cups (USA 1994, France 1998), compiling 15 goals in 121 appearances with El Tri, making him currently the third-most-capped player in Mexican National Team history.
