WEST SACRAMENTO, Calif. - The Tacoma Rainiers ninth inning rally fell short in a 5-4 loss to the Sacramento River Cats at Raley Field on Thursday night, ending the club's win streak at three games.

Trailing 5-3, Tacoma infielder Nate Tenbrink led off the inning with a single to center field. A fielding error on a single hit by catcher Jesus Sucre allowed Tenbrink to score and brought the Rainiers within a run one at-bat later, but reliever Matt Ekstrom retired the next three Rainiers to close out the game.

The Rainiers were limited to six hits in the contest, with Sucre's two-hit effort topping the lineup. Outfielder Eric Thames went 1-for-5 and has now hit safely in each of the eight games the Rainiers have played this season. Infielder Nick Franklin drove in a run with an RBI-single in the second inning.

Right-handed starter Jeremy Bonderman (0-1) was dealt the loss after surrendering five runs on nine hits over 5.1 innings, while walking one and fanning four. Relievers Brian Moran and Logan Bawcom combined to allow three hits and did not surrender a run over the game's final 2.2 innings.

The Rainiers now head back to Cheney Stadium to begin the club's first homestand of the season tomorrow, April 12th. The eight-game stretch gets underway at 7 p.m. when the Rainiers host the first game of a four-game series against the Salt Lake Bees. A special Opening Night fireworks display will be shown immediately following the final out.

Left-handed pitching prospect James Paxton (0-0, 4.50) is slated to start for the Rainiers against right-hander A.J. Schugel (0-0, 3.60) for the Bees. First pitch is scheduled for 7 p.m., with Friday Night Fireworks immediately following the final out.
