Iowa Cubs News Release

Des Moines, IA - The Chicago Cubs have placed 3B Josh Vitters on the disabled list and added IF/OF Tim Torres to Iowa's active roster from double-A Tennessee.

Vitters has been battling a sore back since the team left spring training and has just one at-bat as a pinch-hitter on the year. The 2012 PCL All-Star's seven-day stint will start as of April 9. Vitters also missed time in spring training with a strained quad. Vitters batted .304 (126-for-415) with 17 homer runs and 68 RBI in 110 games with Iowa last year and made his major league debut with Chicago in August.

Torres was originally slated to be on Iowa's Opening Day roster, but was transferred to Tennessee when the Cubs signed Donnie Murphy and Ryan Sweeney prior to Iowa's first game. Torres played in six games for the Smokies and was 2-for-8 with two walks, three strikeouts, and a stolen base. The Cubs signed Torres as a minor league free agent on February 5. He spent last season at double-A Tulsa in the Colorado Rockies' organization. Torres was originally drafted by the Houston Astros in the 23rd round of the 2006 draft out of Oral Roberts University.

The Cubs host the Albuquerque Isotopes in their home opener tonight at 7:05 at Principal Park. The gates will open at 5:35. Tonight's is our first Mediacom Fireworks Friday of the season featuring a fabulous post-game fireworks show. The game will be broadcast live on AM 940 and streamed live at iowacubs.com with the On-Deck Circle Pre-Game Show starting at 6:45.
