Fort Myers Mighty Mussels News Release
PORT CHARLOTTE, FL (August 21st, 2011) -- Torrential rain came pouring down at Charlotte Sports Park in the bottom of the 7th inning in game one of a doubleheader between the Miracle and Stone Crabs, and due to subsequent unplayable field conditions, game one was suspended with the score tied 1-1.
The game will continue next Friday night at 5:05 p.m. in Charlotte when the team's meet again at Charlotte Sports Park. A second nine inning game will follow. Two seven inning games are scheduled for next Saturday night starting at 5:30 to make up the second game from today.
Tom Stuifbergen started this afternoon for the Miracle, and allowed only three hits in five and two third innings. With Fort Myers leading 1-0 in the 5th, Stuifbergen made his lone mistake, giving up a two-out solo home run to Matt Hall.
Charlotte starter Kyle Lobstein maneuvered through several tough jams, limiting the damage against him to just one run through six innings. He allowed seven hits, but the Miracle struggled with men in scoring position. They wasted a big scoring opportunity in the second inning, loading the bases with no outs, but Lobstein got back-to-back strikeouts, and then Aaron Hicks lined out to left field to end the threat.
Lobstein gave up his lone run in the third inning as Oswaldo Arcia doubled with two outs, and scored on an RBI single from Dan Rohlfing.
Stuifbergen left the game with two outs and a man at second in the sixth inning, with Matt Tone striking out Anthony Scelfo to end a scoring threat. Tone allowed a walk and struck out another batter in the seventh before play was suspended.
Fort Myers will have a scheduled off day on Monday, before welcoming the St. Lucie Mets on Tuesday night. The two teams will play a doubleheader to make up a suspended game from July first, with no score in the first inning. First pitch is set for 5:05 p.m. at Hammond Stadium.
