Lansing Lugnuts News Release
BELOIT, Wisc. - Dalvy Rosario capped an eight-run seventh inning with a grand slam through a downpour, and the Beloit Sky Carp (14-27) rained down an 11-4 victory over the Lansing Lugnuts (16-25) on Wednesday night at ABC Supply Stadium.
The game began with a 21-minute rain delay and finished with a soaked field in a driving storm.
In between, Tyler Soderstrom and Austin Beck homered to help the Lugnuts build leads of 1-0, 3-1 and 4-3. Meanwhile, starter Osvaldo Berrios turned in his first quality start, striking out eight, walking none, and allowing three runs in six innings.
But after Kumar Nambiar walked two of the first three Sky Carp batters in the bottom of an increasingly rainy seventh inning, Nasim Nuñez tied the score with an RBI double. Edward Baram relieved Nambiar and intentionally walked Victor Mesa, Jr., to load the bases, then hit Bennett Hostetler to force in the go-ahead run and walked Tanner Allen to give Beloit a 6-4 lead. Rosario followed with a home run to left, extending his hitting streak to 12 games and giving the Sky Carp a 10-4 lead.
With the field approaching swamplike status, Beloit's Ynmañol Mariñez and Davis Bradshaw purposely ran into tags to end the inning.
The Nuts amassed ten base hits in defeat, including two hits apiece from Drew Swift, Brayan Buelvas and Soderstrom.
Lefty Hogan Harris starts the third game of the series on Thursday night at 7:35 p.m. Eastern, 6:35 p.m. local time, opposing Beloit southpaw Dax Fulton.
The next home game in Michigan's state capital arrives May 31, when the Nuts welcome in the Cedar Rapids Kernels. For more information or to purchase tickets, visit lansinglugnuts.com or call (517) 485-4500.
