ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. (May 21, 2003) â The Surf pounded out a season-high 12 hits in a 10-1 victory over the Pennsylvania Road Warriors in a rain-shortened five and one-half inning game, Wednesday evening at the Sandcastle
The Surf jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the second inning after a two-run double by Pat Burns that plated Brandon Jackson and Emison Soto. Burns scored on a base hit off the bat of Raul Marval.
The Atlantic City offense struck again an inning later when Soto blasted a shot over the left field wall with Ric Johnson on base for his first homer of the season. Trey Beamon then walked and advanced to third on a Jackson double. Beamon scored on a single by Burns, and Jackson crossed the plate on Marval's sacrifice fly to right field to make the score 7-0 Surf.
Surf starter Brian Williams left after just one inning pitched with an injury, so reliever Rene Vega tossed three and two-thirds innings to pick up his first win of the season. Vega allowed one unearned run on four hits while striking out four and walking three.
Atlantic City tacked on three more runs before the game was called in the bottom half of the sixth inning after umpires determined the field was unplayable.
Soto went 3-3 with three runs and two RBI while Burns, Johnson, and Marval added two hits apiece.
Atlantic City improves to 8-10 on the season while the Road Warriors drop to 4-14.
The Surf and the Road Warriors conclude their series with a "School Day Special" on Thursday, May 22, at 11:05 a.m, at the Sandcastle.
