Zebulon, NC - Rain came shortly after batting practice concluded. PEBBLES OF KNOWLEDGE:

This is only the third rainout of the season for the Blue Rocks and their first on the road.

Before the game, the Kansas City Royals announced infielder Jake Kuebler had been released. In a corresponding move, first baseman Matt Fields joined the team and was in the starting lineup. His contract was purchased from the Southern Illinois Miners of the independent Frontier League where he led the league with nine home runs in just 31 games. A 44th-round pick by Tampa Bay in 2004, he got as high as Double-A Montgomery in both 2009 and 2010 where he was managed by former Wilmington skipper Billy Gardner, Jr.

Also in the lineup set to make his Carolina League debut was outfielder Lane Adams. The native Oklahoman was penciled in as the left fielder batting fifth while Fields followed in the sixth position.
