Frederick Keys News Release
FREDERICK, MD - The Keys dropped their eighth straight game Friday night at Harry Grove Stadium, losing 9-4 to the Myrtle Beach Pelicans in front of 6,069 fans for Cowboy Monkey Rodeo Night.
With Myrtle Beach scoring a combined eight runs in the third, fourth, fifth and sixth innings, they pulled away to a 9-2 lead midway through the contest, putting away the Keys for a sound defeat.
The loss also marks eleventh in twelve tries for the Keys who haven't won a game since June 11th.
The Keys fall to 0-2 in the second half of the season and 27-45 overall.
Myrtle Beach starter Kyle Hendricks was masterful against the Keys, going eight innings and giving up only two earned runs on seven strikeouts and no walks.
After Steve Bumbry tied the score at one in the second, Myrtle Beach exploded for four runs in the third to take a 4-1 lead against Keys starter Tim Berry, who came into the night not having allowed an earned run during his time in Frederick.
Frederick would get a run back, but Myrtle Beach resumed the scoring in the fifth, scoring twice to take a 6-2 lead. After Odubel Herrera and Hanser Alberto led off the inning with base hits, Christian Villanueva hit one runner home on a slow groundball and the next batter, Tomas Telis, singled in another.
The next inning, Myrtle Beach poured it on, scoring three more times to take a 9-2 lead. Josh Richmond and Jake Skole each got on base after getting hit and drawing a walk, respectively. After Teodoro Martinez loaded the bases with a bunt single, Herrera drove in one runner with a single. A single from Villanueva and a sacrifice fly from Telis brought in two more runs as the Pelicans were able to coast from there.
The Keys will try and avoid the sweep and a ninth consecutive loss when Dylan Bundy takes the mound for Scout Night at 6:00 PM. Fireworks, presented by The Reserve at Ballenger Creek, will follow after the game.
Live coverage starts at 5:40 on 1450 AM The Source and online at WTHU.org.
LHP Tim Berry (0-0, 0.00 ERA) starts for Frederick while RHP Kyle Hendricks (1-7, 2.72 ERA) gets the nod for Myrtle Beach.
