Railroaders Drop Old-Fashioned Pitching Duel

CLEBURNE, Texas - Jared Mortensen surrendered just one run over eight innings, but Cleburne fell 1-0 to the Wichita Wingnuts at Lawrence-Dumont Stadium on Monday evening.
The only run Mortensen allowed came on a one-out RBI single from Tony Thomas in the bottom of the first inning. After giving up three hits in the first inning, Mortensen allowed just one hit and one walk over the final seven, tossing Cleburne's first complete game of 2018.
Wichita starter Travis Banwart threw seven scoreless innings, giving up four hits and one walk with seven strikeouts. The Wichita bullpen combined to finish the final two innings, giving up just one hit with three strikeouts. James Campbell earned his first save of the season with a scoreless ninth inning.
K.C. Huth went 2-for-4 with a pair of singles - Cleburne's only multi-hit effort in the game. Cam Monger hit his third double in two games, while Alex Polston and Levi Scott both walked. Rafael Palmeiro extended his hitting streak to three games with a one-out single in the second inning, and Angelo Gumbs struck out three times.
Cleburne's now lost three of its last four games, and the Wingnuts have won a season-best four consecutive games.
The game, played in two hours and five minutes, was the second-quickest nine-inning game in franchise history.
The series at Lawrence-Dumont Stadium continues on Tuesday night. RHP Patrick Mincey will throw for the Railroaders, while LHP Casey Harman will get the ball for Wichita. First pitch is set for 7:05 p.m., and pregame coverage will begin on TuneIn Radio at 6:45.
