
RailHawks to Play Honduran Powerhouse CD Olimpia Friday, March 27

Cary, NC (Friday, February 27, 2009) - The Carolina RailHawks announced today the will host Honduran powerhouse CD Olimpia on Friday, March 27, at 8:00 p.m. at WakeMed Soccer Park in Cary. With this match, the RailHawks continue the tradition of bringing top-quality matches to Triangle soccer fans that resulted in sold-out games against Cruz Azul and Monterrey of Mexico. This match, presented by Harris Wholesale and Bud Light Lime, is part of the "All-Inclusive" season ticket package and individual tickets ($35, $27,50 and $20) will go on sale Monday, March 2, at 9:00 a.m. at the LGFCU Box Office, by calling 919-859-KICK (5425), by visiting www.carolinarailhawks.com and at various locations in the area.
"Matches like this one are great for us," said RailHawks Head Coach Martin Rennie. "It allows us to measure up to a quality side and further evaluate our roster in preparation for the 2009 USL-1 Season."
"We are excited to bring CD Olimpia to the Triangle," said RailHawks President Brian Wellman. "They are one of the most successful teams in Honduras and the match allows us to further integrate the Hispanic community in what we are building here. We are certain the large amount of Hondurans in the area will not want to miss the opportunity of seeing one of their favorite teams."
Joining Bud Light Lime on the âmarquee' for this one-of-a-kind game is Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina and Cricket Communications.
Club Deportivo Olimpia is a Honduran football and baseball club based in Tegucigalpa, Francisco Morazán. They compete in the Liga Nacional de Honduras, the top division in the country, and play their home matches in the Estadio Tiburcio Carias Andino. The club was founded in 1912, and is the nation's most successful team having won 21 domestic league titles. Also, they are the only Honduran club ever to win the CONCACAF Champions' Cup twice.
CD Olimpia has developed many notable players throughout their history including 2001 MLS MVP Alex Pineda Chacon, English Premier League midfielder Wilson Palacios and Benfica forward David Suazo. Olimpia is captained by Honduras' leading goalscorer Wilmer Velasquez, only the second player in Honduras to reach the 150 goal mark.
