The Mexican Olympic National Team will compete at the 2011 Pan American Games in Guadalajara, Mexico, and attempt to qualify for the 2012 London Olympics.
This team features a number of bright young stars from the Mexican Primera, such as forward Antonio Lopez from Club America, defender Oswaldo Alanis from Estudiantes Tecos, midfielder Marco Fabián from Chivas de Guadalajara and midfielder Darvin Chávez from Atlas.
Lopez made his first-team debut for America in February 2009 when he was just 19. In the 2010 Bicentenario, Lopez has appeared in eight matches, with four goals and one assist. On March 7, he had a hat trick in a 6-0 win over Queretaro, and on Sunday, he scored the game-tying goal in a 2-2 draw with Pachuca.
Alanis has appeared in 10 matches during the 2010 Bicentenario, helping Tecos earn two shutouts, and he has scored one goal.
Fabián has been with Chivas since 2007 and at age 20, has already earned more than 50 appearances with the senior team. He has one assist in five matches for Chivas, which currently sits atop its group in the 2010 Bicentenario.
Chávez has appeared in one match for Atlas so far in the 2010 Bicentenario, helping his team to a 1-0 win over America on Feb. 6.
Throughout their three-year existence, the RailHawks have annually played against top teams from Mexico. They have previously hosted Mexican clubs Cruz Azul, Monterrey and Tecos to near capacity crowds at WakeMed Soccer Park, and this match will be no different.
"This is exciting for everybody to be involved in," said Carolina RailHawks coach Martin Rennie. "Mexico have got great young players and players who will be on the Olympic Team. It's a chance for everybody here to see top international talent and it'll be great chance for our players to test themselves. That's going to be good to see."
