CARY, N.C. - The Carolina RailHawks (0-4-2, 4 points) tied against the Fort Lauderdale Strikers on Wednesday night at WakeMed Soccer Park 3-3 with five of the goals being scored during the second half. Nick Zimmerman scored twice and Brian Shriver scored and assisted for the RailHawks. For the Strikers Lance Laing, Walter Restrepo, and Mark Anderson scored the goals. Two hours prior to kickoff, over 1,500 fans flocked the parking lots at WakeMed to enjoy the 4th Annual Taste of the Triangle where they were able to enjoy samples from over 30 restaurants and 6 local breweries.
"I'm very disappointed to give up another lead at home. We should have won today. It's becoming something mental that we have to overcome, get over the little hurdle and we'll be fine," said head coach Colin Clarke. "Going forward we had a fantastic game, moving the ball, generating chances, and scoring goals. The play in the back just wasn't good enough today."
The RailHawks dominated the early first half but could not test the Striker's goalkeeper Matt Glaeser. The Strikers tried counter attacks and almost got on the scoreboard when Aly Hassan hit the post in the 12th minute of play. Finally in the 41st minute of play, Brian Shriver captured a rebound in the Striker's box and scored his third goal of the season.
In the second half the RailHawks continued to pressure and quickly found the back of the net. Zimmerman scored his third goal of the season after a Shriver assist. The Strikers were able to get on the scoreboard in the 61 minute through a free kick taken by Laing. The RailHawks were quick to react with another Zimmerman goal in the 65th minute to put the match 3-1. Just two minutes later, Restrepo cut the lead back 3-2 after an assist from King. The Strikers found the equalizer in the 77th minute of the game with a shot by Mark Anderson that curled over Burse. Neither team could capitalize on the opportunities they had in the final minutes of the match and the game ended with a 3-3 tie.
The RailHawks will travel to Canada to face FC Edmonton on Sunday May 6th at 4:00 PM ET. Following the match in Canada the team will continue on the road when they face the Minnesota Stars FC at 8:30 PM ET on May 12th. Both matches will be shown live online at www.CarolinaRailHawks.com/live. The RailHawks will return to WakeMed Soccer Park on May 19th to face the Puerto Rico Islanders at 7:00 PM ET.
