2012 Lamar Hunt US Open Cup Comes to Lockhart Stadium

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. (May 2, 2012) - The Fort Lauderdale Strikers have announced they will host their second round match in the 2012 Lamar Hunt US Open Cup at Lockhart Stadium on Tuesday, May 22 at 7:30p.m.
Tickets for the Strikers' opening match in the Open Cup will go on sale at 10:00a.m. on Thursday, May 3rd on the Strikers web site, www.strikers.com. Their opponent will be either the Fresno Fuego of the PDL or Stanislaus United Turlock Express of US Club Soccer.
All tickets will be general admission and will cost $12. Strikers' season ticket holders will receive a special price of $10 in advance of the game.
The US Open Cup is the oldest ongoing national soccer competition in the country and is open to all US Soccer Federation affiliated teams, from amateur adult club teams to the professional clubs of Major League Soccer.
"The Open Cup is a great chance for us to play teams at all levels of US soccer," said Strikers head coach Daryl Shore. "We are excited to be a part of it and hope to be the most successful lower division team in the tournament."
The tournament's first round will take place on Tuesday, May 15 with the six, US NASL teams joining in the second round on May 22nd, and the 16 US MLS teams joining in the third round on May 29th. Should the Strikers win their second round match, they will advance to face an MLS team in the third round.
The home team for the third round match will be determined by a blind draw on Wednesday, May 16th after the conclusion of the first round games. The blind draw will also be in place for the fourth round, which is the first round two NASL teams could potentially face one another.
The Strikers have participated in five Open Cups in franchise history. Their best finish was making it to the round of 16 twice, once in 2008 and again in 2010. In 2010, the team was led by Paulo Araujo Jr. who was tied for the tournament lead with five goals.
