CARY, NC - The Carolina RailHawks defeated the Atlanta Silverbacks 2-0 on Friday night at WakeMed Soccer Park.
"It was important to make sure to get three points tonight," said Carolina RailHawks Head Coach Colin Clarke. "We showed belief, we showed character, and the boys have been ready for this one."
The RailHawks returned home ready to hit the ground running as they came out strong both offensively and defensively. With his first shutout of the Fall Season, Akira Fitzgerald added proper support from the net to keep his team in great position for the game with a 2-0 score after the first half.
Nazmi Albadawi, a local product of Raleigh, scored his 3rd goal in the past two games to give the RailHawks a 1-0 lead in the 24th minute when he blasted a shot from 25 yards out into the upper right corner of the Silverbacks goal.
Shortly after, Captain Connor Tobin added to the RailHawks' attack with his second goal of 2015. From Blake Wagner's free kick, Tobin pounced on a loose ball from close distance that put his team up 2-0 in the 28th minute.
The RailHawks were merely inches away in the 62nd minute from taking a 3-0 command of the game when Austin da Luz skillfully chipped a shot over C.J. Cochran, but was denied by the crossbar. It was one of several great opportunities for the RailHawks in the second half. However, neither team found the back of the net, and the final score was 2-0.
