CARY, NC - With a spot in The Championship on the line, the Carolina RailHawks (Fall Season: 6W-2T-8L, 20pts) took on the Fort Lauderdale Strikers (Fall Season: 6W-5T-5L, 23pts) on Saturday night (x-apple-data-detectors://2) at WakeMed Soccer Park. At the end of the match, both the RailHawks and the Strikers remain in contention for the final spot in The Championship as they drew 1-1.

The first-half got off to a slow start, as neither team created any quality chances.

The RailHawks opened the second half with their sights set on victory. After numerous pushes, Nacho Novo found Tiyi Shipalane deep in the Strikers zone, but the normally sure footed midfielder sent the ball just wide of the Strikers frame.

The Strikers countered after Shipalane's near miss and stormed down the pitch moving the ball effortlessly through the RailHawks midfield that was still regrouping from Shipalane's inability to cash in on a quality chance moments earlier. Within a matter of seconds, the ball found the foot of Mark Anderson in the RailHawks box and Anderson was able to finish, as he buried his shot past a diving Akira Fitzgerald.

A motivated RailHawks side pushed forward needing to equalize to keep their postseason dreams alive. After numerous chances, Shipalane redeemed himself as he found Novo in the box for a chance. Novo, surrounded by Strikers defenders, with his back to the net heeled in an amazing trick-shot goal to level the score in the 82nd minute of play.

With this result, the RailHawks remain in contention for a spot in The Championship, and remain only two points behind fourth place Fort Lauderdale.
