RailHawks Look to Extend 12-Game Home Unbeaten Streak on Saturday
September 13, 2013 - North American Soccer League (NASL)
North Carolina FC News Release
CARY, NC (September 13, 2013) - The Carolina RailHawks (3W-1T-2L, 10pts) take on the NASL's Fall Season remaining unbeaten club, the Tampa Bay Rowdies (2W-4T-0L, 10pts) at WakeMed Soccer Park on Saturday, September 14, at 7:00 pm ET. Saturday's match will be broadcast live on www.CarolinaRailHawks.com and 99.9HD-3 The Ticket.
"It's unique to play the same team in back-to-back weeks," said Colin Clarke, RailHawks head coach. "After a disappointing result in Tampa, the team is ready to get back on the field. Fans are going to be able to see another exciting match between two sides that like to attack."
The RailHawks and NASL leading goal scorer, Brian Shriver, will look to extend their 12-game home-unbeaten streak at WakeMed Soccer Park. This series has a history of offering up a thrilling match, as the last two times the clubs have met the games were decided in stoppage time with late goals. In the Spring Season, the RailHawks secured three points at home by the stunning the Rowdies with two stoppage time goals from Cesar Elizondo and Tiyi Shipalane. But when the clubs met last weekend at Al Lang Stadium in Tampa Bay, the tables were turned when the RailHawks fell 3-2 after a stoppage-time own-goal.
Saturday's match will see the NASL's statistically strongest defense and strongest offense pitted against each other. The RailHawks ascent to upper eschelon of the table has been partly due to only allowing 5 goals through 6 matches, while Tampa Bay has registered a league-high 13 goals.
Tickets are available by calling the St. Lawrence Homes Box Office at (919) 459-8144 or purchase online here.
Delbono Added to Roster The RailHawks have resigned midfielder Luciano Delbono for the remainder of the Fall Season. Delbono originally joined the RailHawks to close out the Spring Season. Wake Forest University standout and drafted by the Montreal Impact (MLS), Delbono is the 11th RailHawks player with North Carolina ties.
Series Records All-time, the RailHawks have enjoyed a 6W-6T-2L advantage over Tampa Bay but have a 4-to-4 point stalemate in the 2013 series (1W-1T-1L). Yet at home in WakeMed Soccer Park, the RailHawks have fared well against the Rowdies, boasting a record of 3W-2T-1L, with scores of 3-1, 2-0, 3-3, 0-0, 1-2 and 2-1 since 2011. The RailHawks last home loss was a 2-1 playoff defeat at the hands of the Rowdies.
