Cary, N.C. (Friday, August 27, 2010) - The Carolina RailHawks (9-7-7, 34 pts.) host the Puerto Rico Islanders (7-7-8. 29 pts.) on Saturday night at 7 p.m. The match is presented by LGFCU and it is College Night. College students will receive significant discounts on the price of admission just by showing their student id at the Box Office and concessions stands will be selling hot dogs for only $1. Tickets ($10, $15, $20, +$2 day of game) are still available at the LGFCU Box office by calling 919-859-5425 or by visiting www.carolinarailhawks.com.
"We've had two good wins against a very good team in Puerto Rico," said RailHawks coach Martin Rennie. "They are at the top of their group in the Champions League so we know it will be a very tough game but one that we will be looking forward to."
The RailHawks are hot off a record breaking seventh road win against the Tampa Bay Rowdies last Wednesday. Etienne Barbara and Matt Bobo both scored in the 2-1 victory. This is the third meeting between the two teams this season and Carolina will look to continue their positive streak as they lead the series 2-0.
The Islanders come to WakeMed Soccer Park after a 4-1 win over El Salvador's C.D. Fas in the CONCACAF Champions League to give them the lead in their group. They are 2-0-6 in league play since losing to the RailHawks 2-0 at home last July. Forwards Josh Hansen and David Foley lead the team in scoring with four and seven goals respectively.
"Puerto Rico has been doing very well against some strong teams," said RailHawks midfielder Amir Lowery. "I expect them to come in with a little bit of confidence and an eye on a little revenge after we beat them twice at home. We are, however, focused on our home performances and finding our form so we can play at our best in front of our home crowd."
Looking ahead, the RailHawks host Crystal Palace Baltimore on Friday, September 3 at 7 p.m. only two days before Mexican legend Claudio Suarez joins Carolina in a friendly match against Pumas Morelos of Mexico on September 5 at 6 p.m. For tickets and information please visit the LGFCU Box Office, call 919-859-5425 or visit www.carolinarailhawks.com.
