Austin Aztex News Release

AUSTIN, Texas (www.austinaztex.com) - Despite playing a man down for most of the second half, the Austin Aztex were able to get out of PGE Park in Portland on Thursday night with a 1-1 draw against the Timbers.

Sullivan Silva scored the key goal, his first of the year, as he blasted a shot from the left side of the field into the far post, which tied the match in the 27th minute. The Aztex fell behind early when Bright Dike received an Aztex turnover at midfield, which led to a breakaway for Dike. With Kieron Bernard unable to catch him from behind, Dike was one-on-one with Miguel Gallardo and able to beat him to the back of the net.

In the 56th minute, the tide changed in favor of Portland after Bernard was given a second yellow for a tackle on the Aztex defensive half of the field. Following the card, the Aztex defense tightened up and absorbed the plethora of shots to close out the remaining 30 minutes and improved to 1-2-2 against Portland all-time.

The draw bettered Austin's record on the road to 5-1-3 and 3-2-1 when its opponent scores the first goal in the game. Additionally, the Aztex remained unbeaten this season when keeping a clean slate in the second half, upping their record to an immaculate 11-0-3.

An injury to Lawrence Olum's groin in Wednesday's training session kicked the two-game road trip off to an ominous start for the Aztex, but a stellar defensive effort to shut down the USSF D-2 Pro League's leading scorer, Ryan Pore, and a barrage of late shots.

The Aztex now travel to Vancouver for the last of the west coast swing before returning to Austin to face NSC Minnesota.
