North Carolina FC News Release
Cary, NC (Friday, September 10, 2010) - The Carolina RailHawks (10-8-7, 37 pts.) host the MLS-bound Portland Timbers (11-7-8, 41 pts.) for one last time on Saturday night at 7 p.m. It is WakeMed night and all fans will receive mini-inflatable soccer balls while supplies last. Tickets ($10, $15 and $20 +$2 day of game) are available at the LGFCU Box Office by calling 919-859-5425 or by visiting www.carolinarailhawks.com.
"Portland has been on a good run recently and playing well," said RailHawks head coach Martin Rennie. "They are gearing up for Major League soccer so they are making adjustments to accommodate that. We have had good battles with them and the last two years we have both been at the top of the league so it will be a good and exciting match."
The Portland Timbers sit in third place in the USL conference and fourth place overall just four points above the RailHawks. They are led by forward Ryan Pore who is leading the league in goals scored with 15. The Timbers are undefeated in the last six matches and the RailHawks will look to reverse that. The Timbers are one of two USSF D-2 teams making the jump to Major League Soccer next season with the Vancouver Whitecaps being the other one.
A win by the RailHawks would put them within one point of fourth place in the general standings, closer to the top four spots and home field advantage. The RailHawks are coming off back-to-back 3-0 wins against Crystal Palace Baltimore and Pumas Morelos of Mexico. In the last league match, Daniel Paladini, Allan Russell and newcomer Tom Heineman all tallied goals for Carolina.
Saturday will also mark Swoops' fourth birthday. Stormy, WakeMed's Twinkle, Mr. and Mrs. Wuf, Harris Teeter's Harry the Dragon and Time Out Teddy will be out to celebrate with Swoops and interact with the fans.
The RailHawks will be traveling to Minnesota on September 15 and to Baltimore on September 18 before returning home on September 25 when they host the Puerto Rico Islanders at 7 p.m. For tickets and information please visit the LGFCU Box Office, call 919-859-5425 or visit www.carolinarailhawks.com
