Montreal Impact News Release

CHICOUTIMI - The Montreal Impact, in partnership with the Chicoutimi soccer club and the City of Saguenay, announced on Friday that Chicoutimi will host a soccer clinic on September 25 and 26. More than 300 players from the region will have the opportunity to practice with Impact players. "The Impact is more than ever Quebec's team," said Impact Executive vice president Richard Legendre. "We are privileged to be able to go out into the community to visit our fans. I would like to thank the Chicoutimi soccer club for its collaboration. Soccer is alive and well in the whole province and the Saguenay is an excellent example. In October 2009, a similar clinic organized in Val d'Or was a huge success and we know that this experience will be just as strong."

The clinics will be offered to youth aged 6 to 16, boys or girls, and is open to all skill levels and positions. The Impact will also take part in different community events across Saguenay, starting with introductions at Saguenay city hall and at other different public events.

"We are very pleased to offer our fans across Quebec an opportunity to meet and mingle with their favourite players," said Impact assistant coach Mauro Biello. "We will also have an opportunity to see the level of the local players, which could be a good opportunity for them. With the Academy made up of players less than 21 years of age, we are always interested in discovering new talent for the future of the club."

"This will be an exceptional visit by players of a high calibre," said Chicoutimi soccer club president Mario Bergeron. "The reality of tomorrow starts with the dreams of today for all young athletes."

"Over the last few years, Saguenay has held the development of soccer in the region, which continues to grow, in high regard," said Bernard Noël, president of the sports and leisure commission in Saguenay. "Millions of dollars have been invested in synthetic fields, and we aim to continue such efforts that will only benefit our young people."

The clinics will be held on the synthetic field at the UQAC in Chicoutimi, from 9am to 12pm, and then again from 1:30 to 4:30pm. The registration fee for players/goalkeepers is $70 for three hours. To register, participants must contact Dany Gauthier at 418-698-3254 or by email at csc@soccer-chicoutimi.qc.ca. Information is also available on the Chicoutimi soccer club's website at www.soccer-chicoutimi.qc.ca.
