Cary, NC (Saturday, April 12th, 2008)The Carolina RailHawks defeated the University of Virginia Cavaliers 1-0 today with a late game own goal in the 64th minute by UVA defender Matt Poole at WakeMed Soccer Park in Cary. The RailHawks continued their preparation for the 2008 USL-1 season by working on chemistry and ball possession. The lone goal came off a free kick by midfielder Martin Nuñez across the 18 yard box where RailHawks forward Jamil Walker was able to put pressure on Virginia's Matt Poole who headed the ball straight into the back of his own net.
The RailHawks continue their preseason preparation on Sunday April 13th at 1:00 PM as they host USL-1 rivals the Minnesota Thunder at WakeMed Soccer Park in Cary. Tickets for this event are $5 and are available at the LGFCU Box Office at WakeMed Soccer Park.
The Carolina RailHawks men's team home opener at WakeMed Soccer Park is on April 26th at 7:30 PM against the Charleston Battery. The newly-formed Carolina RailHawks women's team will have its home debut on May 16th at 7:30 pm against the Atlanta Silverbacks.
