North Carolina FC News Release
Blaine, MN "" The Carolina RailHawks (3W-2D-2L, 11pts) tied league leading Minnesota United FC (5W-1D-1L, 16pts) 0-0 at NSC Stadium in Blaine, Minnesota.
Both clubs created their chances in the first half, but it was Minnesota who had a sterling chance to get on the scoreboard in the twenty first minute, after Christian Ramirez and Daniel Mendes combined with a give-and-go that left Mendes 1-on-1 against Akira Fitzgerald. But the RailHawks goalkeeper stayed big and blocked Mendes' attempt. Later in the first half RailHawks midfielder Enzo Martinez found space near the end line, but his ball was shepherded across the face of goal untouched.
Little was changed in the second half as neither team found the back of the net despite creating chances. RailHawks regulars Tiyi Shipalane and Mike Grella came into the game in the 58th minute and added an offensive spark. In the 81' minute, Grella collected the ball at midfield and quickly countered. Grella dribbled into the Minnesota penalty area and beat a defender, but his attempt on goal sailed above the cross bar.
The RailHawks return to WakeMed Soccer Park on Wednesday May 28th to face in-state rival Charlotte Eagles in the 3rd Round of the Lamar Hunt U.S Open Cup. Three days later the RailHawks will host the Tampa Bay Rowdies in the Spring Season Home Finale. Tickets to the games against Charlotte Eagles and Tampa Bay Rowdies are on sale now at CarolinaRailHawks.com or by calling the RailHawks Box Office at (919) 459-8144.
