North Carolina FC News Release
The Carolina RailHawks (8-6-7, 31 pts) posted their first come from behind victory in franchise history, beating Miami FC (3-9-11, 20 pts) 2-1 on Wednesday night. Second half goals just three minutes apart from Gregory Richardson and Etienne Barbara were enough to earn three points for the RailHawks.
"I'm really pleased that we won," said RailHawks head coach Martin Rennie. "We showed a lot of character and determination to come back, and as far as I know it's the first time in franchise history that the team has come back after giving up the first goal. So it's a massive night for the RailHawks and all the guys who fought hard to get the result."
After an hour long weather delay, both teams had trouble finding a rhythm early. The first shot finally came in the 21st minute, when Matt Watson redirected a Etienne Barbara cross wide. The RailHawks shut down the Blues attack, holding Miami FC to two first half shots. In the 45th minute, Nic Platter came up with a big save to keep the game scoreless at halftime.
Miami FC came out moving the ball smoothly in the second half, and took the lead in the 49th minute. Platter saved the initial shot by Danilo Martins, but Paulo Araujo picked up the rebound and banked it in off the post. The RailHawks began to mount their comeback in the 71st minute, when Greg Shields crossed it to the far post and Richardson finished with a diving header to even up the game at 1-1.
In the 74th minute, Barbara put the RailHawks on top 2-1. Richardson diced up the left side of the field and popped up a cross to Barbara who one timed a bouncing ball past Caleb Patterson-Sewell. The RailHawks controlled much of the remaining play to leave WakeMed Soccer Park with a 2-1 victory, including a near miss from second half sub Andriy Budnyy.
"We're playing a lot of games right now," said Rennie. "And to get a win really helps us on our way."
Looking ahead, the RailHawks embark on a two-game road trip that will take them to Austin on August 21 and Tampa on August 25. They return home on August 28th for the first of two home games against the Puerto Rico Islanders.
