North Carolina FC News Release
Cary, NC (Tuesday, April 14, 2009) -RailHawks captain Mark Schulte was named USL-1 Player of the Week for his performance against the Minnesota Thunder in the season opener on Saturday April 11th.
"This honor for Schulte was very well deserved," said RailHawks head Coach Martin Rennie. "He had a really good game and was involved in both goals. Our whole team played very well and we want build upon that in the next game on Saturday."
Schulte led the RailHawks to their first season-opener victory in franchise history with some great defending. It was his hand in both goals, however, that really set him apart. In the 12th minute, Schulte threw the ball into the box, and it came out of the area and back to him. From about 20 yards, Schulte lashed a drive that weaved its way through the crowded box into the back of the net.
Gavin Glinton scored the game-winner but it was Schulte who initiated the play with another spectacular throw-in. The ball bounced in the box and was picked up by Daniel Paladini. Paladini shot a rocket from 30 yards out that ricocheted, hit the cross bar and was headed in by Glinton for the 2-1 final score.
Fans will have a chance to see Schulte in action again this Saturday, April 18, at 7:00 p.m. as the RailHawks host the Rochester Rhinos at WakeMed Soccer Park. Individual tickets for this match are available at the LGFCU Box Office, by calling 859-KICK (5425), or by visiting www.carolinarailhawks.com
