North Carolina FC News Release
The Carolina RailHawks traveled to Charleston to face the Battery on Tuesday night and came away with their first piece of hardware. The Southern Derby Cup, a fan based competition created to promote rivalries between soccer teams fin the South, changed hands as the RailHawks mathematically won the trophy by defeating the Battery 3-0. Connally Edozien recorded the first hat trick in franchise history by scoring all three goals for the Carolina side. Chris McClellan recorded his 9th shutout of the season in a game that saw th return of Caleb Norkus to the backline.
A check for $10,000 was presented at halftime to the City of Charleston's Firemen's Fund in memory of the Charleston "9", the firefighters who lost their lives in the line of duty on June 18th. The funds were collected on June 23rd when the Battery visited SAS Soccer Park and the Carolina RailHawks organization matched the money collected to bring the donation up to $10,000.
The Carolina RailHawks return to SAS Soccer Park on Friday August 17th at 7:30 PM to host the Atlanta Silverbacks in the final fixture of the Southern Derby Cup.
