
Railcats Win Game Two of the Series

JOLIET, IL -The Gary SouthShore RailCats (38-28) amassed 11 runs on 18 hits to cruise to an 11-5 win over the Joliet JackHammers (24-42) before 2,128 fans at Silver Cross Field on Wednesday night.
The RailCats scored a single run in the 1st inning against Joliet RHP Nate Sevier (0-1). LF Mike Massaro (2-5) led off the inning with a groundout and 2B Eric McNamee (3-5) followed with a single. SS Jay Pecci (5-6) immediately singled him to second base.
1B Steve Haake (2-6) smacked a single to score McNamee for a 1-0 lead.
In the 2nd inning, Joliet jumped out to a 2-1 lead. DH Kyle Nichols (1-3) popped out to lead off the inning and 1B Freddie Thon (1-3) grounded out. 2B Wally Backman, Jr. (0-1) and C Tug Gillingham (1-2) reached base on back-to-back walks. CF Adam Klein (2-4) hit a two-run double to score both men to give the JackHammers their first lead of the game at 2-1.
The RailCats scored a run in the 4th inning to tie the game at 2-2. DH Christian Guerrero (1-4) reached base on an error and advanced to second base on a single by C Brett Wallace (2-4). A fielder's choice hit into by CF Rob Marconi (0-4) retired Wallace and moved Guerrero to third base. Guerrero scored on a throwing error by Sevier to tie the score at 2-2.
In the 6th inning, the RailCats took a 4-2 lead. 3B Mike Rohde (2-4) led off the inning with a double. After Wallace struck out and Marconi grounded out, the JackHammers intentionally walked Massaro and McNamee responded with a single to score Rode. Pecci hit a single to score Massaro for a two-run lead.
The RailCats scored five runs in 7th inning and two runs in the 8th inning to take a commanding 11-2 lead.
The JackHammers responded with three runs in the 8th inning. SS Kevin Rios (1-4) led off the inning with a single and was promptly pinch-run for Danny Cox (0-1). 3B Vince Harrison (2-5) smacked a single to move Cox to second base. Tim Alberts (0-2) came to the plate to pinch-hit for LF Brad Correll (0-3) and reached base on an error by 3B Mike Rohde to load the bases.
RF Joe Gaetti (0-3) smacked a sacrifice fly to score Rios. 1B Freddie Thon (1-3) hit a two-run double to score both Harrison and Alberts and finish the scoring at 11-5.
The JackHammers and RailCats move their series to U.S. Steel Yard on Thursday night at 7:00 p.m. RHP Rory Shortell (3-3, 3.84) starts for the JackHammers against RHP Chris Jones (4-2, 3.13) for the RailCats.
