Late Rally Falls Short in Completion of Suspended Contest

KANSAS CITY, Kan. - The Winnipeg Goldeyes escaped a late-inning rally by the Kansas City T-Bones tonight to take a 6-5 victory in the completion of a game originally scheduled for June 24.

The game resumed in the top of the third inning with a 1-0 Kansas City advantage. Mark Minicozzi hit an RBI double off Bear Bay in the second inning on June 24 to plate the first run of the contest. Rain arrived before the start of the third inning to force the game's suspension.

The Goldeyes quickly started tonight's matchup with a five-run third inning against Cody McAllister, in to replace the original starter Luis Villarreal. A bases-loaded walk to Kevin West plated the first run and a wild pitch by McAllister brought in the second. Juan Diaz then finished the scoring with a three-run home run to give Winnipeg a 5-1 lead.

Brent Metheny plated the Goldeyes' sixth run with a sacrifice fly in the seventh to give the Goldeyes a 6-1 advantage. Cody McAllister left after five and one-thirds innings having surrendered six runs on seven hits in the loss.

Zach Baldwin took the mound in relief of Bay to resume the contest and held Kansas City to just two hits over four innings in the victory. Jacob Blackwood brought the score to 6-2 in the seventh with a solo home run off Derek Feldkamp, who entered for Baldwin to begin the frame.

Feldkamp walked Aharon Eggleston to begin the eighth before giving way to Jon Huizinga. Eggleston stole second before Damian Rolls reached on a walk. Eggleston then stole third and scored when the throw by catcher Dustin Richardson bounced into left field. After an RBI double by Greg Jacobs plated Rolls to push the score to 6-4, an error by Brent Metheny allowed Craig Hurba to reach and Jacobs to advance to third. The next batter, Jim Fasano, drove in Jacobs with a sacrifice fly to pull Kansas City within one.

Chris Homer finished the eighth and threw a scoreless ninth for Winnipeg to earn the save. The T-Bones loaded the bases with a hit batter and two two-out walks, one intentional, against Homer but a flyout from Fasano ended the threat, and the contest.

Weston Curles retired both batters he faced for Kansas City in the eighth. Daniel Sattler threw a perfect ninth to finish the game for T-Bones.
