RailCats Unveil Packed 2010 Promotional Schedule
April 12, 2010 - Northern League (NL)
Gary SouthShore Railcats News Release
GARY, Ind. - The Gary SouthShore RailCats 2010 promotional calendar is overflowing with must-have giveaways, celebrated entertainers and great discounts every night of the week at U. S. Steel Yard, as first unveiled today and available in its entirety at www.railcatsbaseball.com.
The RailCats Tradition of Excellence is still about winning baseball and first-class service, but nothing defines Northwest Indiana's premier professional sports franchise more than family-friendly fun, which is what the 2010 promotional schedule is all about. From discount Dollar Mondays to Fireworks Fridays and Souvenir Saturdays there's always something happening during a RailCats game, and the 2010 promotional schedule is the club's most aggressive ever. At least one special event or promotion is planned for all 50 of the RailCats 2010 home games, starting on Opening Night, Thursday, May 20 at 7 p.m.
Outstanding giveaways have always been a draw for RailCats fans, and the team is proud to announce a number of special new items, without forgetting any of the usual standbys. There's still Fleece Blanket Giveaway night on May 22, the Beach Towel Giveaway on July 11 and a Kids Bat Giveaway on July 24, but the RailCats will add cool new items like a Diamond Giveaway (the jewel, not the baseball kind) June 18, a Rusty the RailCat Bank June 29 and a RailCats Skateboard Giveaway August 14.
Money Giveaways are also back for 2010, with the RailCats passing out $2,000 cash in some combination to the first 1,000 fans through the gates Thursday, June 10, Friday, July 23 and Wednesday, September 1. Five fans each night will get a $100 bill!
Special guest appearances dot the promotional schedule as well, including the annual visit from the first fowl himself, the Famous Chicken. In his only Northwest Indiana appearance, the Hall of Fame mascot guarantees a night of laughs Wednesday, August 18. The RailCats will also bring out another kind of "animal" entertainer when the Ghost Riders visit U. S. Steel Yard for the first time as part of Bark in the Park Night, Tuesday, June 1. Canines are allowed inside The Steel Yard on this night, and after the game the Ghost Riders - a team of spider monkeys riding on top of dogs, all while herding sheep - will perform.
The 'Cats also have several exciting human visitors planned for this summer, beginning Wednesday, June 30 when Chicago Cubs Hall of Fame right-hander Ferguson Jenkins stops by The Steel Yard to greet fans and sign autographs. Jenkins will also throw batting practice to lucky RailCats fans before the game. One week later, Tuesday, July 6, the RailCats are thrilled to be bringing actor Peter Mayhew, best known for playing Chewbacca in the Star Wars movies, to The Steel Yard on Sci-Fi Night.
Nightly promotions return in 2010, beginning with the wildly popular Dollar Mondays. With one dollar hot dogs, chips, popcorn, pop, game programs and more, Dollar Mondays are the perfect way to start your week with savings. Plus, when fans buy one ticket for Dollar Monday games, the second is just a buck.
Tuesdays in 2010 are all about kids, with a special 6 p.m. start time for all Tuesday night games to make sure everyone's home by bedtime. Local students who are part of the RailCats Reading Club will get a free ticket to every Tuesday night game, and the first 1,000 kids (age 12 and under) at Tuesday games will get a free hot dog. Plus, most Tuesday promotions will be geared towards the little ones, and the RailCats will pass out Picture Packs to give youngsters a chance to get an autograph from their favorite RailCats player.
Wednesdays, too, will have a new feel in 2010, with Wet Your Whistle Wednesdays featuring great deals for grown-ups. The RailCats will offer $2 MGD and Miller Lite drafts on Wednesday night, moving the usual beer special a day earlier since the RailCats have only three scheduled Thursday home games in 2010.
The weekends at U. S. Steel Yard will remain much the same, with a post-game fireworks show planned for every Fireworks Friday, great giveaways for fans of all ages on Souvenir Saturdays and the perfect family four-pack on The Times Family Sundays, when fans can get four tickets, four hot dogs and four pops for $36 by clipping a coupon from The Times.
For a complete rundown of the 2010 promotional schedule, visit www.railcatsbaseball.com and click the Schedule tab at the top of the page. The promotional schedule is subject to change, so please check back before attending any game to make sure promotions for that night have not been altered. Plus, more promotions are sure to be added to the schedule in the future.
Season tickets, mini-plans and group outings are on sale now by calling the RailCats at 219.882.2255. For more information on any of the RailCats affordable ticket packages, log on to www.railcatsbaseball.com.
