GARY â The Gary SouthShore RailCats (Northern League) have given third baseman Sean Murphy and infielder Garry Templeton II their unconditional releases, the team announced today.
Murphy batted .281 â 3 HR â 34 RBIs in 84 Northern League games last season. The nine-year veteran batted .288 with 15 RBIs in 40 games with the RailCats after being traded from Kansas City on July 14. Murphy has batted .283 â 27 HR â 177 RBIs in five Northern League seasons with four different franchises since first entering the league in 1997.
Templeton II, the son of RailCats manager Garry Templeton, batted .178 with 8 RBIs in 41 games as a utility infielder with the RailCats in 2003, his fifth pro season.
The releases of Murphy and Templeton II leave the RailCats with five infielders â 1B Wes Chamberlain, 2B Digz Edwards, SS Kenny White, and rookie infielders Nick Chaney and Tom Syska â on the active roster.
