Sioux City Explorers News Release

Sioux City, IA: The Sioux City Explorers announced today that they have resigned Catcher Justin Carroll and INF Jason Sullivan for the 2004 Northern League season. Both will retain their rookie status for the upcoming season.

Carroll enters the 2004 season as the leading candidate to become the X's everyday catcher. In 2003, Carroll split time between catcher and designated hitter. In 49 games, he led the X's in round trippers with 10 while also driving in 26 runs. Carroll's 10 homeruns left him only six behind the league leader even though he had over 200 less at-bats.

Sullivan's return gives the X's constancy at second base for the upcoming season. After being traded from Lincoln to Sioux City in June, Jason was solid at the plate and in the field. His .982 fielding percentage at second was as good as the X's had last year. He also provided a solid bat at the bottom at the order by posting a .273 average in 57 games.
