Gary SouthShore Railcats News Release
Despite not registering a hit until the seventh inning and wasting bases loaded opportunities in the ninth and tenth, the Gary SouthShore RailCats walked off the Fargo-Moorhead Redhawks, 4-3, on a Ryan Brockett single.
Early on, it was the Taylor Stanton show, as the Redhawks' righty shut the 'Cats (20-17) down through the first 6.2 innings, allowing only a walk and a hit-by pitch and facing one over the minimum.
Trailing 3-0, SouthShore strung together a hit, a walk and another hit to get their first run in with two outs in the seventh.
Then another two-out rally in the eighth tied the game as Adam Taylor doubled and Zac Mitchell came across on a wild pitch.
The 'Cats loaded the bases with one out in the ninth, but squandered the opportunity before wasting a second-and-third-with-no-outs opportunity in the tenth.
But the RailCats bullpen kept the Redhawks (10-29) off the board behind some flashy defense, and the bats finally broke through in the eleventh when a Ryan Brockett no-out single scored Jaime Del Valle, who was on second base to begin the inning due to the International Tie-breaker Rule.
The 'pen, consisting of A.J. Quintero, Kevin Osaki, Jessie Snodgrass, Andy Loomis and Chuck Fontana, went the final 5.2 innings, surrendering no runs on only three hits to keept the team in the game.
Rene Solis got another tough luck no decision after his 5.1 inning, three run, seven strikeout effort.
The 'Cats wrap up the homestand Thursday against Fargo as the team celebrates the Fourth of July weekend early with a pre-game patriotic cap giveaway and postgame fireworks show, both courtesy of Fifth Thirds Bank.
