
RailCats Improve to 2-0 in Exhibition Season

Gary, Ind. - The RailCats pitching staff was solid for a second straight day, leading the 'Cats to a 5-2 win over Evansville on Wednesday at U. S. Steel Yard.
The Otters manufactured a run in the second inning against RailCats starter Stephen Hiscock. Nick Schwaner singled and stole second before moving to third on a groundout. He came home to score the game's first run on a groundout by Steve Marino to put Evansville in front 1-0.
The RailCats answered in the bottom of the second, as Ryan Babineau led off with a double and scored on an RBI single by Zac Mitchell to tie the game at one.
Evansville repeated their formula from the second inning in the third, when Runey Davis drew a leadoff walk and stole second before advancing to third on a ground ball and scoring on a groundout by Taylor Black.
The Otters held the 2-1 edge until the seventh. Drew Martinez walked and stole second before scoring on an RBI single to center by Aljay Davis to tie the game at two.
Cristian Guerrero led off the eighth inning with a long single to the wall in left. Josh Wettlaufer entered the game as a pinch runner and moved from first to third on a base hit by Craig Maddox. Wettlaufer came home with the go-ahead run on a wild pitch to make it a 3-2 RailCats lead. Drew Martinez knocked in Maddox with a single to right and Steve Liddle scored on a throwing error to extend the lead to 5-2.
Hiscock allowed two runs in three innings, while Steve Matre, Ian Durham and Matt McSwain combined for six scoreless innings. Durham and McSwain each struck out four, and the pitching staff struck out 12 Otters total.
Maddox was 2-for-2 in the game and Martinez now has three hits and three RBI in two games.
The RailCats and Otters will meet again on Thursday at 12:10 p.m. Fans will be admitted free to U. S. Steel Yard.
