
RailCats Go to Lake Erie to Reshape Roster

GARY, IN - The Gary South Shore RailCats off season overhaul continued today with two key moves to bolster the pitching staff. The club announced that RHP Stephen Bougher was traded to the Lake Erie Crushers of the Frontier League in exchange for RHP Zac Treece. The RailCats continued to reshape their roster for the 2015 season as the team also received LHP Andy Roberts from Erie as a player to be named to complete a previous trade between the two clubs.
Treece spent 2014 with the Crushers posting a 7-3 record with a 2.97 ERA in 97.0 IP. The righty was an All-Star for the Crushers last season, where he worked in 31 games making 11 starts with 88 strikeouts and one complete game. The Hot Springs, Arkansas native spent two seasons with the Gateway Grizzlies in the Frontier League going 5-3 with a 2.13 ERA in 2013 and 2-1 in 2012 with a 1.22 ERA. Treece was named the Frontier League Rookie of the Year in 2012, where he worked in 51.2 IP with 54 strike outs and added four saves in 36 games all in relief. During his senior season at NCAA Div. II Ouachita Baptist (Arkansas) University, Treece had a 1.67 ERA, and was 7-2 in 59.1 IP.
The RailCats acquired Bougher the last day of spring training in 2014 after he pitched for the Lincoln Salt Dogs in 2013. Last season for Gary the Nebraska native went 8-7 in 23 starts posting a 4.80 ERA in 122.0 IP. Bougher was 4-2 at home with a 2.56 ERA in 59.2 IP at the Steel Yard. He also picked up the clubs first win last May 18th at St. Paul a 14-5 RailCats victory. In the win Bougher worked six frames, scattering three hits and giving up one ER.
The lefty Roberts pitched in college at Old Dominion, and went 2-2 in seven games for Lake Erie in 2014. The Prescott, Arizona product worked in 25.1 IP for the Crushers with a 4.97 ERA in five starts. At ODU he had a team best 2.92 ERA in 2013 and led the school with five wins. Roberts began his college career at Iowa Western Community College and appeared in two Junior College World Series. In 2012, he went 20-2 with a 2.00 ERA for the 2012 Junior College National Champions. Roberts was the 2009 pitcher of the year as a junior at Prescott High School in Arizona.
