
Blasters Add Catcher Yenier Bello

Joplin, MO- The Joplin Blasters have added Catcher Yenier Bello to the Inaugural 2015 roster.
Bello, a native of Sancti Spiritus, Cuba, joins the Blasters after spending the 2014 campaign with the Atlanta Braves. Bello's signing was greeted with much fanfare as he was touted as the next Cuban prospect to be developed in the Cuban National Series.
"Yenier is a tremendous talent that we are excited to bring to Joplin," said Blasters GM Shawn Suarez. "As we went through the offseason Catcher was one of our highest priorities and we feel we found an outstanding one in Yenier."
Yenier came to the United States after a storied career in the Cuban National League, which is the country's highest professional league. In 2010, he batted .310 with 18 homeruns and 64 RBIs in 86 games played. Bello boasts an absolute cannon from behind the plate, as he owns a lifetime 50% Caught Stealing percentage. His defection was a rough journey that has become all too common place among Cuban professional players looking for an opportunity in the United States.
Chirinos Signs- The Blasters also added RHP Luis Chirinos to the team on Monday. Chirinos joins the Blasters after spending the 2014 season with the Los Angeles Dodgers' minor league affiliate. He looks to add strong depth the starting rotation.
The Blasters are the newest member of the South Division in the American Association of Independent Baseball. They will play a 50 home game schedule beginning May 21st at a renovated Joe Becker Stadium, and will be a major entertainment destination for the Four States Community.
