With a month left before training camp begins at Shaw Park, the Winnipeg Goldeyes unveiled their 2015 promotions schedule today. As always, it's full of giveaways, fireworks, and theme games.
For the first time since Shaw Park opened in 1999, the Goldeyes will begin their home schedule in June, welcoming the Sioux Falls Canaries on June 2 for the home opener and magnet schedule giveaway, presented by Pepsi, Boston Pizza, and the Winnipeg Free Press.
The home-opening series will also have a visit from the Inflatamanics on June 4 for the first of two school games on the schedule. The other is on June 17. First pitch for those games is scheduled for 11:00 am.
On June 23, No. 31 will go into the team's history books, as Ace Walker's number will be retired by the Goldeyes during a pre-game ceremony, presented by ABC Fire & Safety. The first 1,500 fans through the gates that night will receive an Ace Walker bobble, which replicates the photo of Walker holding the American Association championship trophy above his head in 2012 during the team's championship celebration.
Other Goldeyes-themed giveaways include Boston Pizza Hat Giveaway (June 7), Pepsi BBQ Apron Giveaway (July 15), Winnipeg Public Libraries Bookmark Giveaway (August 2), and Pepsi Jute Tote Giveaway (August 15).
A couple of new theme nights for 2015 include Manitoba Pork's Bacon Night on July 30 and Zombie Night on August 29. As part of Bacon Night, the players will wear bacon-themed jerseys and there will be several bacon-themed items at Goldie's Grill.
The award-winning crew from Archangel Fireworks will have nine post-game fireworks shows during the season, presented by Progressive Waste Solutions.
Fan Appreciation Day on September 7 will conclude the Goldeyes' 2015 season schedule. There will be tons of prizes to be won by fans in attendance.
The Goldeyes begin training camp on May 9, which is also the date of the team's annual open house and the first day individual tickets go on sale. The first 1,500 fans through the gates that day will receive a free hot dog and can of pop, courtesy of Winkler Meats and Pepsi. Gates will open at 11 am. Fans can watch the team workout on the field and take a tour of Shaw Park.
