LAST TIME OUT: Mac Jansen's third period goal tied the game at three and forced overtime then the Rail Yard Dawgs beat the Pensacola Ice Flyers in a shootout, 4-3, Friday night at the Pensacola Bay Center. Jacob Caffrey made 34 saves during regulation and OT then stopped six of eight attempts in the shootout. Jeff Jones scored twice in the shootout, including the game-winner.

MAGIC NUMBER - 4: Roanoke's magic number to clinch a postseason berth is now four; any combination of four points gained by the Dawgs or lost by the Quad City Storm would put the Rail Yard Dawgs in the postseason. The most points the ninth-place Storm can finish with is 53 and the primary SPHL postseason tiebreaker is games won during the regular season. Four SPHL teams have clinched a postseason spot- Peoria, Birmingham, Huntsville and Knoxville are all in. Macon, Fayetteville and Roanoke could each conceivably clinch a spot on Saturday night.

PLENTY OF MILES COVERED: The Rail Yard Dawgs have spent a lot of time on the bus in the last three weeks. They rode 683 miles from Roanoke to Peoria, where the Dawgs played the Rivermen for three games, then bussed another 91 to the Quad Cities for three games against the Storm. Following a 774 mile jaunt for a pit stop at home in Roanoke, the Dawgs journeyed 721 miles down to Pensacola for the weekend set with the Ice Flyers. Roanoke is in the midst of a stretch of 11 consecutive road games, it has not played at home since February 16 and will not return home until March 22.

THE SKILLS COMPETITION: Roanoke improved to 2-1 in shootouts with their win on Friday night and 4-4 overall in overtime games. Jacob Caffrey has been in net for every shootout this season and has stopped 12 of 17 attempts.

COMING FROM BEHIND: The Rail Yard Dawgs trailed, 3-2, entering the third period of their eventual 4-3 win on Friday, only the second game this season they have won after trailing after two. It was the first time they came from behind on the road- the Dawgs had been 0-7-0 when trailing after two on the road.

PICKING UP POINTS: Jordan Carvalho registered an assist on the first Roanoke goal on Friday night and now has points in six straight games, the longest point streak by a Dawg this season. Carvalho had previously recorded two five-game point streaks, as had three other Roanoke skaters. He leads the team with 39 points (9 G, 30 A) and in fifth in the league in assists.

UP NEXT: The Rail Yard Dawgs' road swing continues as the Dawgs will journey to Indiana next weekend for a pair of games against the Evansville Thunderbolts. Friday's puck drop is scheduled for 7:15 PM CST at the Ford Center.
