January 19, 2009 - Central Hockey League (CHL)
Rocky Mountain Rage News Release

Broomfield, Colo. - The Central Hockey League announced today that Rocky Mountain Rage centerman David Morelli has been named its Oakley Player of the Week for Jan. 12 - 18. He is the first Rage player to win a league weekly award this season.

In the three games Rocky Mountain played last week, Morelli recorded four goals, one assist, and a +5 rating. He notched the team's third hat trick of the season in a 7-1 win over the Wichita Thunder on Jan. 16, which included both an unassisted short-handed goal and the eventual game-winner. Morelli then contributed a goal and an assist in the Rage's 3-1 victory yesterday against the Thunder to conclude the week.

Since beginning the season's first 25 games with just nine points, the Burnaby, British Columbia, native has caught fire the last four weeks and been a large reason why the club is among the league's best since Christmas with a mark of 10-2-2. During the 14 games over that time span, Morelli is the Rage's second-leading scorer with 20 points (9g-11a) and an impressive +11 rating. His goal yesterday against Wichita was his seventh first goal of the season, tying him for second in the CHL with Odessa's Dominic Leveille behind only Rio Grande Valley's Jesse Bennefield who has eight first goals this season.

Finally, Morelli's natural hat trick last Friday night came in his 100th career game for Rocky Mountain and gave him 14 goals and 13 assists this season, the exact same totals he achieved last year for the club in 63 games. This season, it took him 37 games to reach 27 points. Through now 39 games, Morelli is fifth on the team in scoring with 29 points (15g-14a) overall.

The Rage conclude a franchise-long eight-game home stand this week with four games in five days at Broomfield Event Center beginning on Wednesday, Jan. 21, against the Colorado Eagles at 7:05 p.m.

The home stand continues on Friday, Jan. 23, at 7:05 p.m. with a tilt against the Corpus Christi IceRays before wrapping up on Saturday and Sunday, Jan. 24 and 25, when the Rapid City Rush visit the BEC. Saturday's game begins at 7:05 p.m. while Sunday's face-off commences at 3:05 p.m.

Individual tickets for all four games this week at the BEC are available for as low as $5 for kids 12 and under (with the purchase of at least one adult ticket) and cost just $10 for students with a valid ID. Tickets may be purchased at the BEC Box Office, www.Ticketmaster.com, (303) 830-TIXS, and all Ticketmaster retail outlets.
