April 1, 2008 - Central Hockey League (CHL)
Rocky Mountain Rage News Release

Broomfield, Colo. - The Central Hockey League announced today that the Rocky Mountain Rage's five-goal, third-period comeback during a 6-5 shootout win on Dec. 29 against the Tulsa Oilers is one of six nominees for the CHL Performance of the Year. The winning performance will be determined by the league's fans entirely through online voting at www.centralhockeyleague.com.

The Rage's effort to erase a 5-0 deficit through 40 minutes of play began with a goal from Colt King 19 seconds into the third period. Still trailing, 5-1, with just more than seven minutes remaining, Rocky Mountain's furious rally really kicked in with three goals over a 2:48 span from David Morelli, Brent Cullaton, and Jami Yoder. King then tied the game at five with 1:33 left in regulation before Trevor Weisgerber scored the game-winning goal in the eventual shootout.

For a video recap of the comeback, at the time the largest third-period rally in the CHL since the 1995-96 season, visit http://www.rockymountainrage.com/fanzone/videos/index.html?c=3&id=184&t=0.

Throughout the regular season, more than 50,000 fans voted to anoint the CHL Performance of the Week. Of the 23 winning performances, six have been selected as finalists for the CHL Performance of the Year. Online voting will take place from Apr. 1 - Apr. 15 with the announcement of the winner following on Apr. 16.

In addition to the Rage's stunning third-period comeback, the five other nominees are:

-The Austin Ice Bats tying a CHL record with three shorthanded goals in one game on Oct. 26 in a 5-2 win versus the New Mexico Scorpions. Zach Klann, Henry Kuster and Jason Tessier scored the man-down markers for the Ice Bats.

-The New Mexico Scorpions scoring 10 goals (tying a 2007-08 season high) in their 10-3 victory over the Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees on Dec. 15. New Mexico took a commanding lead in the game scoring three goals in the first six minutes and leading 7-0 after one period. Konrad Reeder had six helpers and Craig Macdonald notched a hat trick.

-Bossier-Shreveport goaltender John DeCaro recording his CHL record-setting 10th shutout of the season on Feb. 16 in a 3-0 win versus Austin. DeCaro finished the season with a 27-6-3 record and broke CHL single-season records with a 1.63 GAA, a .941 save percentage and his final total of 11 shutouts.

-Oklahoma City Head Coach Doug Sauter coaching the Blazers to his 500th win with the team on Feb. 23 at Tulsa. The longtime coach of the Blazers is just the fifth professional North American coach to win 500 games with the same team and just the second minor pro coach to reach the milestone.

-The Arizona Sundogs coming back from a 5-0 deficit with less than 15 minutes remaining in the third period en route to their 7-6 overtime win on March 19. The comeback was the largest in CHL history by a team to eventually win the game. Arizona trailed by three goals with 1:23 remaining but a pair of goals from Cory Urquhart and a goal from Chris Bartolone pushed the game to overtime where Alex Leavitt scored the game winner.
