Rocky Mountain Rage News Release

Broomfield, Colo. - The Rocky Mountain Rage take the ice at 9 a.m. on Monday, Oct. 8, when they open training camp and begin preparations for their second season in the Central Hockey League. In addition to the 21 players already under contract, five more players on try-out agreements will also seek to earn a spot on the 19-man regular season roster, including Jozef Budaj, the older brother of Colorado Avalanche goaltender Peter Budaj.

After a week of training camp practices, Rage fans can get a preview of the upcoming season when the club takes-on the Colorado Eagles in the first game of a home-and-home pre-season set at Broomfield Event Center on Saturday, Oct. 13, at 7:05 p.m. The Front Range rivals turn right around and face-off again on Sunday, Oct. 14, at the Budweiser Events Center also at 7:05 p.m.

Practice then resumes the following week before head coach Tracy Egeland must have his roster pared down to 19 players by the CHL's regular season roster deadline on Oct. 17. Rocky Mountain hits the road to begin the regular season on Oct. 19 and 20 against the Odessa Jackalopes and Amarillo Gorillas, respectively, before returning to Broomfield for the home opener at Broomfield Event Center on Friday, Oct. 26, at 7:05 p.m. against the Tulsa Oilers.

Jozef Budaj headlines the list of five try-out players vying to make the team. The 27-year-old from Banska Bystrica, Slovakia, spent parts of three seasons playing professional hockey in the West Coast Hockey League and United Hockey League from 2000-2003. Justin Depretis (forward), Ben Manny (forward), Chris Obradovich (goaltender), and Chris Shaw (defenseman) will join Budaj in pushing the players already under contract in an effort to avoid being one of the seven cuts that will have to be made by the roster deadline date.
