Bucks Announce Training Camp Roster, Schedule
October 5, 2007 - Central Hockey League (CHL)
Laredo Bucks News Release
LAREDO, TX- The Laredo Bucks of the Central Hockey League announced their 2007-08 training camp roster today. This season teams can keep 19 players on their active roster, up one from last year, with a maximum of four veterans (280 or more regular season games played). 25 players will be competing in camp for the 19 roster spots. The deadline for teams to have their rosters trimmed to 19 is Thursday October 18th, the eve of the season opener.
"I think we have a good mix of talent, grit and character in camp this year", said Bucks head coach/GM Terry Ruskowski. "We need to get all the guys on the same page right away".
The Bucks have 10 returning players in training camp, three who have veteran status, with a total of 16 players who have at least one year of pro experience, and nine rookies trying to make the team.
"The first two things I look at with the new players is how they skate, and how their work ethic is. Then I look at their positioning on the ice, how they pass, and receive passes, and of course how much they want to win and how gritty they are. All of that comes into play when they are trying to make the team", Ruskowski said.
The Bucks will have a battle at goaltender in camp, with four goalies vying for two roster spots, Dustin Traylen, Kevin Beech, Ryan Senft, and Kyle Knetchel. Traylen and Senft are entering their third pro seasons, while Beech and Knetchel are rookies.
"We will have a very good battle going on in goal", Ruskowski said, "all four guys are capable of making the team, it's going to be a good situation as camp develops".
Another good battle in camp will be with the defensemen. The Bucks have eight defensemen in camp, with Igor Agarunov switching positions this season. All but one defensemen in camp has pro experience, with Tyler Harder being the only rookie.
"There could be either one or two openings on defense, depending on if we move (Serge) Dube to forward. We have to see how he plays up there. We decided to move Iggy to defense this season", Ruskowski said. "We have to find the right combination back there".
