
Rage to 'Celebrate Democracy'

A Press Conference will be held Thursday, March 3, 2005 at the St. Charles Comfort Suites Inn, located at 1400 South 5th Street in St. Charles beginning at 1:45 PM. In conjunction with the RiverCity Rage Homer Opener on Saturday, March 26th, civic leaders at the conference will announce that day as a designated 'Celebrate Democracy' day in St. Charles. Present at the Press Conference will be Samir, the Iraqi national who helped capture Saddam Hussein. Samir was working as an interpreter with United States military troops when he pulled Saddam out of his hiding hole after informing him of his options. Also present will be:
Salaam Allyasiry: The unsuccessful Iraqi uprising against Saddam in 1990 was co-ordinated from his law office in Najar.
Mike Mayweather: Representing the U.S. Army. Mike was an All-American football player at West Point, and the all time leader rusher in Army history.

The RiverCity Rage will open the 2005 season on Saturday, March 26th at the St. Charles Family Arena. The theme for the evening is "Celebrating Demoicracy" with emphasis on honouring the brave people of Iraq and Afghanistan, two of the world's newest democracies, as well as members of the U.S. Armed Forces, which helped make those democracies come about. Military personnel from Scott Air Base and Ft. Leonard Wood will attend the game and a "Heroes Half-Time Flag Football Game" will feature local sports stars and celebrities playing along sode soldiers who served in Iraq and Afghanistan.
