Rocky Mountain Rage News Release
Loveland, Colo. - David Morelli scored the eventual game-winner 3:04 into the third period and Scott Reid made 36 saves as the Rocky Mountain Rage solidified their hold on first place in the Northwest Division with a 3-1 win over the Colorado Eagles at the Budweiser Events Center.
The teams traded single goals through the first two periods. The Rage's Trevor Weisgerber scored at 15:45 of the first and was answered by the Eagles' Paul Esdale at 13:07 of the second to send the game to the third dead-locked at one.
Just prior to notching the go-ahead tally, Morelli absorbed a crushing hit on the end boards. But he re-gained his feet, looped in front of the goal, and jammed home his third of the season off his own rebound to give the Rage their second one-goal lead of the evening. Clay Plume then added an insurance goal on the power play at 13:07 to give his club some breathing room down the stretch.
Reid was very sharp, allowing just the one goal against. He picked up his league-leading 15th win of the season and is now in sole possession of eighth on the all-time wins list with 111 career CHL victories.
The win was the Rage's third straight against Colorado, including their second in a row on the defending President's Cup Champions' home ice. The team upped its record to 19-3-2 on the year and now leads the Northwest by 10 points over the second-place Eagles.
Rocky Mountain now returns home to Broomfield Event Center and closes the books on 2007 with games on Friday and Saturday, Dec. 28 and 29, against the Oklahoma City Blazers and Tulsa Oilers, respectively.
Tickets for both 7:05 p.m. starts are on sale now with prices ranging from $18-$43 per seat (parking included).
