Rafa Mentzingen Named USL League One Player of the Week

CARY NC - North Carolina FC's Rafa Mentzingen was named USL League One Player of the Week presented by Konami eFootball after his match-winning performance against Lexington Sporting Club.

Mentzingen scored the winning goal for North Carolina FC, receiving a pass from Oalex Anderson Jr. on the penalty spot before spinning and slotting home the goal. Mentzingen almost scored earlier in the match, seeing a header go just over the bar from a few yards out. Mentzingen totaled 4 shots in the match and completed 10 passes in the final third, creating one chance.

Mentzingen has enjoyed a fast start in North Carolina, having also been named to the USL League One Team of the Week after NCFC's opening match against Tormenta FC.

Defender DJ Benton was also named to the Team of the Week for his performance against Lexington. Benton completed 46 passes, created a chance, and recorded three interceptions.

North Carolina FC travels to Loudoun United in the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup on Wednesday April 5 at 7:00 PM ET, before returning home to face Charlotte Independence on Saturday, April 8 at 7:00 PM ET.
