The Chattanooga Red Wolves will host a U.S. Open Cup match for the first time in club history against USL Championship side Birmingham Legion FC this Wednesday at 7:30pm. Tickets are now available!

The Red Wolves are in the midst of a four game homestand going 0-1-1 in USL League One play with an upcoming league one tilt this Saturday vs One Knoxville Sporting Club in the first match of the Smoky Mountain Smackdown series between the new in state rivals.

Birmingham comes into the Open Cup matchup at the top of the table in the USL Championship Eastern Conference with a record of 3-0-1

Sean McDaniel President and GM of the Red Wolves is excited about being selected as a host team. "What a great day in Red Wolves history. Hosting an Open Cup match for the first time in our history is something our club and our fans have desired, to host it during our fifth year anniversary season makes it even better. Drawing Birmingham should provide for a very entertaining match and make it one of the early marquee games."

Now in its 108th edition, the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup - U.S. Soccer's National Championship - has crowned a champion since 1914 in every year except 2020 and 2021. The history-filled tournament is conducted on a single-game-knockout basis and open to all professional and amateur teams affiliated with U.S. Soccer. In 1999, the oldest ongoing national soccer competition in the United States was renamed to honor American soccer pioneer Lamar Hunt.
