Quick Wins Second All-Star Team Honors at the 2012 NHL Awards

LOS ANGELES, CA - Jonathan Quick, winner of the Conn Smythe Trophy and member of the Stanley Cup Champion Los Angeles Kings, has been named to the NHL's Second All-Star Team. Quick, the former Manchester Monarchs netminder who earned Second Team honors for the first time in his career, attended Wednesday's 2012 NHL Awards at the Encore Theater at the Wynn Las Vegas as a Finalist for the Vezina Trophy, awarded annually to the NHL's top regular season goaltender.
Quick finished second in Vezina Trophy voting to goalie Henrik Lundqvist of the New York Rangers. Nashville Predators goalie Pekka Rinne was also a Finalist. The 30 NHL General Managers voted on the Vezina Trophy at the end of the regular season.
Voting for the First and Second All-Star Teams was conducted among representatives of the Professional Hockey Writers' Association at the end of the regular season. Quick is the first Kings player to earn First or Second All-Star Team honors since Drew Doughty was voted on to the NHL's Second All-Star Team at the 2010 NHL Awards.
Quick is the first goaltender in Kings history to be picked as a Finalist for the Vezina Trophy under the trophy's current format. Prior to the 1981-82 season, the Vezina was awarded to the goaltenders of the team allowing the fewest number of goals during the regular season (the William M. Jennings Trophy is now awarded for this). Under the old format, Rogie Vachon and Gary Edwards both finished runner-up to Bernie Parent (Philadelphia) in 1974-75.
Quick had a record-setting year for the Kings and ranked amongst the NHL's best in every major goaltending category. He was even better during the playoffs as he led the Kings to their first-ever Stanley Cup championship while earning the Conn Smythe Trophy as the Stanley Cup Playoffs MVP.
In 20 post-season games, Quick compiled 16 wins while leading all playoff goaltenders with a 1.41 goals-against-average (third best all-time for goalies with at least 10 games played) and a .946 save percentage (tied for third best all-time for goalies with at least 10 games played). He also tied for first with three post-season shutouts.
Quick's regular season NHL rankings were the following: first in shutouts (10), second in goals-against-average (1.95), tied for fifth in wins (35), tied for fifth in save percentage (.929) and fourth in games played (69).
Quick, who was selected as the Kings MVP (Bill Libby Memorial Award), Best Defensive Player and Most Inspirational Player (Ace Bailey Memorial Award), set franchise single-season records in the following categories: shutouts (10), save percentage (.929) and goals-against-average (1.95). Quick also set a club record with three straight shutouts (Oct. 18-22) and a consecutive scoreless streak of 202:11 (third period Oct. 15 through first period Oct. 27, stopping 92 straight shots). He is the first Kings goalie to win 30-plus games three straight seasons and the second to win 20-plus games four straight seasons.
The All-Star netminder allowed two-or-fewer goals 46 times during the regular season (31-8-7 in those games) and allowed one goal or shut out the opposition 27 times (18-5-4 in those games). Quick, who played for Team Alfredsson at his first All-Star game Jan. 29 in Ottawa, was named an NHL Star of the Week three times during the regular season.
In 249 career NHL regular season games (all with the Kings) Quick is 131-87-25 with a 2.30 goals-against-average, .916 save percentage and 24 shutouts.
Among the Kings all-time franchise leaders Quick's rankings are the following: third in wins (131), first in goals-against-average (2.30), first in save percentage (.916), second in shutouts (24) and third in appearances (249).

The 26-year-old from Milford, Connecticut was originally selected by the Kings in the third round (72nd overall) in the 2005 NHL Entry Draft. Quick collected a 17-13-2 record, a 2.48 goals-against-average and 0.921 save percentage in 33 games over parts of two seasons with the Monarchs from 2007-09.
