Quakes Win Take 1-0 Lead in Best-Of-Three

September 8, 2016 - California League (CalL1)
Rancho Cucamonga Quakes News Release

Rancho Cucamonga, CA-- Noah Perio ended the longest playoff game in Quakes' history, as his RBI single in the bottom of the 16th inning scored Matt Beaty to give Rancho Cucamonga a 4-3 win over the Lancaster JetHawks.

The win at LoanMart Field sends the Quakes with a 1-0 series lead in the best-of-three, now needing just one win over the next two days to advance to the South Division Finals, where the High Desert Mavericks await the winner of this series.

After the Quakes tied the game on an error in the bottom of the eighth, the game remained scoreless until the 16th. Dodgers rehabbing outfielder Andre Ethier, who hadn't played a full nine innings on any of his previous nine rehab appearances, opened the 16th inning with a single to right field. Beaty followed with a fielder's choice, then moved to third base, as Yusniel Diaz doubled down the left-field line. Lancaster then elected to walk Johan Mieses, setting up a match-up between reliever Alex Winkelman (0-1) and Perio. Perio delivered with his second hit of the night, as he slashed a single into right-center field to empty the

Rancho dugout in celebration.

The Quakes never led until the game-winner, as Lancaster owned the lead on three different occasions. Rancho starter Tim Shibuya was strong over six innings, allowing two runs on eight hits.

After Shibuya allowed a run in the third, Michael Ahmed tied the game with a solo shot to left field.

In the fifth, the JetHawks grabbed a 2-1 lead, as Johnny Sewald's second of four hits brought home Osvaldo Duarte.

The Quakes evened the game in the sixth, as Ethier struck for a solo homer, his first as part of his rehab assignment, tying the game at 2-2 against Lancaster starter Brock Dykxhoorn. Ethier finished the game at 2-for-7.

The teams traded runs again in the eighth, but Rancho rallied when Erick Mejia doubled, then scored on an Ahmed single and accompanying throwing error by Duarte.

Gavin Pittore (1-0) earned the win with a scoreless 16th. Corey Copping fired three scoreless innings out of the bullpen, while Alex Burgos followed with four more innings of scoreless relief.

The Quakes will send left-hander Michael Boyle to the mound on Thursday night in Lancaster, as they look to sweep the best-of-three series. Lancaster will go with Jose Hernandez, needing back-to-back wins at home in order to advance. Game time from Lancaster is 6:35pm and the game can be heard live with Mike Lindskog and Max Gun on FOX Sports 1350 or through the iHeartRadio app, or the TuneIn Radio app.

‚¬â€¹Playoff Ticket Packages are available by calling (909) 481-5000 or online at rcquakes.com. Should the Quakes advance to the next round, the next home game at LoanMart Field would be on Monday, September 12th. We hope to see you at LoanMart Field very soon ... Go Quakes!
