Jethawks Fall to Quakes in Game 1 Marathon

RANCHO CUCAMONGA, Calif.- Noah Perio delivered a bases loaded walk-off single with one out in the bottom of the 16th inning to lift the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes to a 4-3 victory over the JetHawks in Game 1 of the South Division Mini-Series.

There was no scoring after the eighth inning until the winning run came across in the 16th . The JetHawks left 15 on base and went 1-for-7 with runners in scoring position. They had just two hits in the extra innings.

Aaron Mizell opened the scoring with a long home run to right-center to open the third inning. The Quakes tied it in the bottom of the frame with a one-out solo homer from Michael Ahmed. Mizell reached base four times in the game.

The JetHawks went back in front in the fifth inning. Osvaldo Duarte led off with a double. He moved to third on a grounder to second by Myles Straw. Johnny Sewald followed with a bloop RBI single into left. It was one of Sewald 's four singles on the night. He also added a walk.

Andre Ethier, who is on a MLB rehab assignment from the Dodgers, tied the game with a solo home run to open the bottom of the sixth inning. He would later lead off the 16th inning with a single.

Lancaster took the lead once again in the eighth on a two-out RBI double off the bat of Jamie Ritchie, one of his three hits on the night. The double scored Jason Martin from first base.

The Quakes evened the score with an unearned run in the bottom of the eighth. Erick Mejia led off with a double, one of his two in the game. He scored after an infield single by Michael Ahmed and an error on shortstop Osvaldo Duarte.

Brock Dykxhoorn started and tossed seven strong innings for the JetHawks. He allowed two runs on four hits, walked two, and struck out seven. Kevin McCanna went the next four innings in relief, and Andrew Thome followed with three shutout frames. Alex Winkelman (0-1) suffered the loss. After a perfect 15th inning, he allowed the winning run in the 16th .

Rancho Cucamonga starter Tim Shibuya lasted six innings. He allowed two runs on eight hits and struck out four. Four Quakes relievers combined to allow just one run on five hits over the next 10 innings. They struck out 11 JetHawks over that span. Gavin Pittore (1-0) picked up the win for the Quakes.

The series shifts to Lancaster for Game 2 of the best-of-3 series on Thursday night. First pitch is 6:35 p.m. at The Hangar.
